HISTORY OF NYAMANYAMANI

INTRODUCTION

Nyamanyamani is a village under Bimbilla Municipal Assembly Nanumba North, Ghana. Nyamanyamani is located in Northern Region of Ghana along the Eastern corridor. This community comprised three ethnic groups such as Chokosi, Konkombas and Bekabra and comprisesof four clanssuch as Kuuchattib, Nankpantib Sambutib. These are the ethnic groups and clans that can be founded in Nyamanyamani. Apart from chokosi and kabra, the rest of clans are speaking the same language.

The origin and history of Nyamanyamani community under Bimbilla Nanumba North has been a subject of research for a long time now. It is on record that the first founder of Nyamanyamani kingdom was a hunter who came from nowhere to settled in the present day Nyamanyamani and the name of Nyamanyamani Wura community was given by the Taali market traders. This man could buy so many items anyday he goes to the market, because of these desirable items and ingredients buying from the market the traders decided to named him 'Nyamanyamani Wura' which drieved from Akan language around the years of 1936. Before then, the whole area was forest and full of wilde animals. When he wanted to settled the area he first of all made an inquiry about the forest and those people who gave him ahead, were the people of nanumba, they were land tenure and feudalism. This hunter was told that, the place was full of wilde animals so if he is not strong enough he could not stay safe overthere he then accepted to settled but he was without his wife. Due to the nature of the community, this hunter could not stay for long and he vacated himself from the area within a year 1936.

In 1937, another hunter came from Nanbilli Charkpaba under Charipuni district looking for a place to settle and when he got to Taali he contacts chief and his cabinet members of Nanumba and they gave him ahead but Nanumba told him the whole things of the area. This hunter was a person known as Wajah and he was a chokosi by tribe. Wajah came with his wife and the children to settled in the community and was maintained the community name Nyamanyamani once it has already been described by first settler. According to the narratives by Hon Jabab David, in spiritually Wajah was powerful, he could used his spiritual aspect of power to drived all wilde animals away out of the forest and sometimes used to killed some. Despite the assertion of suzerainty, people of Nanumba see not to closed to the village because of Wilde animals. Wajah also needed the development of his community so he decided to bring one of his family members so that they could shared their opinions together and he was called Jagnanbun.

Jagnanbun also came with his wife and children to live with Wajah because he was closed friend to Wajah. Few months later Jagnanbun set-up his house and both live for few years before Wajah went back and brought his biological brothers to live with him. By then that, the community developed both population and buildings. The community developed both quantitative and qualificative. This has opened the door for other tribes to come and occupy the community Nyamanyamani, because they were partly in search for fertile farm land. Then along the side Wajah passed on and the land tenure was handled to Barla the younger brother of Wajah. Barla ruled the community to extend that he could not continued he died and chieftaincy was given to Gmanpin after he also passed on, Gmapo was supposed to take the kingship but he drestical refuses and asked Konjah to take the kingship and Konjah ruled for a period of years before dead and then the kingship moved back to Tiburum the son of Wajah the founder of Nyamanyamani kingdom. Tiburum ruled just within a three years and dead.

This time around, the chieftaincy reverse to Gmapo who first refused the kingship in previous time after him, the kingship moved to Bilimah the Wajah brother's son. He also ruled just for three years and dead. The Kingship then moved to Bajubu the son of Gmanpin and he is the current chief of Nyamanyamani.
